ReplyDeleteWhen I was younger, I felt more open to esnxesripg my various views (political, religious, etc.) even though they strayed from the norm (politically incorrect, in some instances), at least for eastern North Carolina. However, I think people, as a whole, have, in general, become more intolerant in that time period. I used to say things that were satirical, and it was accepted or laughed at for the most part. Now, however, I am afraid to express anything of that sort for fear of being taken seriously, and I am afraid to express any different sort of religious or political view among those around me. Other people, who believe in the Rapture and do not believe in evolution, are not afraid to express that. Or people who believe that Al Qaeda was in Iraq BEFORE Saddam was deposed are not afraid to say that. Or people who criticize Obama for being a secret Muslim are not afraid to say that, even though they have no idea what being a Muslim is, nor do they care. I could go on and on and on
